The Northern Ireland Civil Service introduced a total ban on smoking throughout all NI Department and NIO premises (excluding Prisons) with effect from 1 January 2005.
A complete smoking ban is to be implemented in all Northern Ireland's workplaces and enclosed public spaces, including pubs in April 2007.
The Irish Republic introduced a total ban on smoking in workplaces and public spaces in 2004. The UK will also follow by summer 2007.
If you're caught smoking in a banned area you could be fined £1000.
Those in charge of the premises could face a £2,500 fine if they fail to stop you. They could also be charged on-the-spot fines of £200 if they fail to display no-smoking signs, with the penalty increasing to £1,000 if the issue goes to court.
It is essential that all premises therefore provide areas for smokers outside the premises if they wish to still attract those who need to smoke.
We can provide all that is necessary, from shelters to butt-bins and signs to do as much as possible so you get rid of the smoke, and not the smokers. Visit our dedicated site at www.smoko.eu
